Bachmeier's talent is further validated by the Big 12's recognition of his performance at Cincinnati, where he was named the Big 12 Freshman of the Week for the sixth time. The Cougars' defense, led by Jay Hill, has also been a key factor in their success. Ranked No. 2 in the Big 12 for scoring defense and total defense, and No. 1 in red-zone defense, the Cougars have 38 interceptions over the last two seasons, including 16 in 2025. This defensive prowess has significantly enhanced their recruitment efforts, improving their depth chart.
As BYU approaches Thanksgiving with a 10-1 record and a shot at the Big 12 championship, Doman believes they have a lot to prove. "A win over the Knights will clinch a spot in the championship game," he said. "But no one believes in them. It's a chance for them to show their true potential."
Doman's own experience with being discredited adds a layer of poignancy to his words. In 2001, his 10th-ranked Cougars were snubbed by the Bowl Championship Series, highlighting the ongoing struggle for national recognition. Despite this, Doman remains optimistic, urging the team to play with confidence and determination.
